Trumpet: for beginners, I typically utilize the methods book in which the student is using in their beginning band class. If the student is not enrolled in band at a public school, I typically use a combination of materials. Focus on fundamentals at the beginner level is essential for musical proficiency. My approach to coaching students is focused on 5 important areas; embouchure, tone quality, intonation (pitch), technique, and time. Memorization of key signatures and scales are very important to the student's overall success. I utilize a method for memorizing key signatures which will decrease the memorization time and increaseretention. Having taken lessons on several instruments and being self-taught on others I understand that the most important thing a teacher can instill in their student is 1) the basic knowledge to understand the instrument, and 2) the passion to discover and teach themselves.
