Music is fun! And learning it shouldn't be any more different! I encourage the student to explore what they love in music, a song, a movie, and try to figure it out on the instrument. When you play something that you absolutely love you will have FUN and won't get bored with it. I love seeing my students thrive and let music be their passion as it is for me. Read More

I am a composer and clarinetist who wants to fill the world with music by composing, performing, and teaching. I graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2011 with a BA in Music, where I primarily focused on clarinet performance, as well as music theory and composition. I am currently a master's student at George Mason University, and continue to actively play that clarinet. I have performed with numerous groups, including the University of Mary Washington Philharmonic Orchestra, the University of Mary Washington Jazz Ensemble, the City of Fairfax Band, and the Mason Modern Music Ensemble (M3E) at George Mason University. I am very passionate about music. I love to teach and pass along what i know so that others can continue to create music for profit and personal enjoyment. I am a very low pressure teacher. If you are not enjoying your time then no one is benefiting from the lessons. I use a marker board, books, a metronome, paper and pencils etc to tech lessons. I do not send home "homework" but i will assign practice exercises for students to do between classes and will check on the progress and results when we meet for our next lesson. Read More

After that I really like to use the John Thompson's piano book grade 1, and I have had many good results with my students in the past. Read More

As mentioned above, my teaching methods are a mixture of discovery and practice that may or may not use formal books and methods. The young student may prefer the use of technology such as Ipads and laptops. Some others may prefer to learn through paper books and methods. I provide the student with the choice of using many electronic tools for improving his learning. Some students prefer a more relaxed, free way of learning. Read More
