With younger students, I'll guide them more in their pursuits by introducing them to more standard repertoire within the saxophone standards before branching out into more specific studies as I would for older students. Im a multi faceted musician with particular expertise and passion for jazz. I am an HBCU graduate and am proud of it. I recently completed my masters in Jazz Studies at the University of Arkansas at Monticello on full scholarship as a teaching assistant. I consider myself up and coming in the music world and have been blessed to have unique experiences as a performer and leader such as playing at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago or being a section leader in the Marching Wildcats of B-CU. I started teaching 1st graders about basic music concepts at the local elementary school when I was in 7th grade. Once I got to high school and I started to get serious about music, I began teaching private lessons to middle school and other high school students. By the time I was in college, I was capable of teaching lessons to students of any age or skill level. I now teach a wide variety of students between the ages of 6 and 73 and have taught many genres including: Jazz, classical, pop, hip hop, blues, rb, samba, soul, funk, rock, and avant-garde. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the standard of excellence book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
