For beginning students who are children I like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Most schools use this book and I feel its a great beginning method. I start them working on tone and ear training. There is no one size fits all learning companion so I really like to see what the students interests are and find what really works for them. I tend to work with students on a one-on-one basis. I start by showing the student how to get a sound out of their instrument, and then I lead a student through their first scales. Instruments: Piano, Voice, Saxophone

Ive been teaching saxophone and piano lessons professionally for the last 7 years, and have had students go on to play for the Utah All-State Jazz Band and have earned several scholarships. I encourage regular practicing and give weekly assignments that include rudiments, transcription projects, and listening assignments. I focus on the jazz language and how its been applied to modern genres like hip hop, funk, and RnB. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I am a non traditional master's student who returned to earn a music degree in my forties. I have taken a year off from master's work to transfer to a different program. I've been fortunate enough to study or perform in master classes with some of the biggest names in the saxophone world. My primary professors have been Allen Rippe, Douglas Owens, and Mark McArthur. I've also have limited study with Donald Sinta as well as jazz studies with Adam Shroeder. Read More

I also believe for other students who are serious about what they are trying to do, it can make the difference between parents paying college tuition or my student receiving that money through a scholarship. There are also students who just need some reinforcement for what is already being taught them at school. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
