My lessons always start with a mix of theory based info and instrument technique. I don’t use books or any of that mumbo jumbo, because everything you need to know is free online. I will help guide your exploration in music, and I will encourage you to soak in information from musical sources other than myself. I will force you to listen to the music you want to study(doesn’t sound like bad hw to me), and eventually, I will help you construct your own ideas! Read More
Instruments: Piano, Saxophone, Organ, Synthesizer
I have played the piano for over thirty years, and picked up the saxophone in middle school (almost twenty-five years ago). I was a band-nerd through high school and went on to get my undergraduate degree in music from a vibrant musical school in Nashville, Tennessee. I have played in churches, for theater productions, for weddings, funerals, receptions, parties... you name it. I bring many genres and styles to the table and can help you understand how each one works to adapt for any opportunity. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet
Additionally, I like to work with scales and long tones in a more advanced way, expanding the range of the instrument and tone quality as we prepare repertoire. With students interested in jazz, either as their primary course of study or in addition to classical music, we focus even more on scales and arpeggios, aiming to master first the most commonly used keys and then expanding to 12 key mastery. I like to begin with a play-along book like Jamey Aebersold's "Maiden Voyage", stressing the beginnings of improvisation, then moving on to more advanced tunes and chord progressions. Read More

I have earned Honorable Mention in the OU Concerto Competition, and I received the Most Outstanding Clarinet Studio Member as a sophomore. I was also the clarinetist in the Undergraduate Woodwind Quintet. As a member, we placed 2nd in the OkMEA Regional Chamber Competition. I was a successful band director for four years, but I am returning to the private lessons world. I serve as principal clarinetist of the 395th Army Band. Read More

There are many terrific methods and books available for musical development. An easy and enjoyable starter is Essential Elements. The Eubanks series is good, especially the advanced flute book one. There are some great solo books especially the Kris books 1-3 that come with nice piano accompaniments. Students really benefit from scale technique development coupled with arpeggio and varied articulation studies like Klose for Clarinet and Melodiusvand Progressive Studies for Saxophone. Read More
