I've been developing a power point and You Tube presentation to go along with the book for those students who need more visual stimulus. I like various curruiculum's with Trumpet and Brass players. I have a Masters degree in music composition from the University of Memphis with a minor in music theory. I also have a bachelors degree in music composition from Texas A&M at Commerce Texas with a minor in piano. Since graduating from college i have been conducting after school music programs for many local schools as well as teaching private lessons from my music studio. Ive been teaching saxophone and piano lessons professionally for the last 7 years, and have had students go on to play for the Utah All-State Jazz Band and have earned several scholarships. I encourage regular practicing and give weekly assignments that include rudiments, transcription projects, and listening assignments. I focus on the jazz language and how its been applied to modern genres like hip hop, funk, and RnB. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I tend to work with students on a one-on-one basis. I start by showing the student how to get a sound out of their instrument, and then I lead a student through their first scales. I almost always play the piece or scale first, as I have found learning to read music is far easier to learn when the student already has an idea how the music should sound before they try to play the piece.
