I'm a caring, straight-forward and passionate instructor who believes anyone can achieve greatness when it comes to music. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance. I received my Master's Degree in Trumpet Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have performed in many countries including Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Austria, China, Taiwan and Japan in venues such as the Kennedy Center, the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Berlin Philharmonie. Music has created an incredible life journey for me thus far, and I would love to share those experiences and opportunities with eager minds.
I love to teach people of all ages and skill levels! I am a flexible guy that is able to adjust to the needs of the student, thus making my teaching style accessible to a wide range of students and individuals. My passion for music glows through our lessons and making music fun is a number one priority. The true name of the game is improving as fast as you can. My lessons will teach you how to improve on your own and enlighten your understanding of the art of music making and performing.
If you are beginning and are a child, then Hal Leonard's Essential Elements is a very general and safe place to start. I firmly believe that establishing a solid set of fundamentals is a great place to start. It is important to not lose motivation during this period, progress is rewarding and it gets even better! After a solid foundation is established fundamentally, the individual is opened into a musical world with limitless possibilities. In addition to physical practice, I emphasize mindfulness techniques as tools for students to build tolerance to music performance anxiety and improve focus.
Acknowledging accomplishments is an ideal way to motivate a student to improve. While critiquing a student's weaknesses is something a teacher should do, celebrating the positive moments in playing can help engrave good habits. Whether you are trying to learn for fun or trying to get into the college of dreams for music, I am able to cater my teaching style to the needs of the student and this makes music fun for everyone! Every student should feel able to be vulnerable and learn in a way that is both positive and supportive.
