2016 - Manhattan School of Music Precollege Program, Graduated with High Honors
I'm a freelance musician with over six years of teaching experience. A singer/songwriter from New York, I graduated from Vassar College in 2020 with a degree in music, and moved to New Orleans to pursue a career in music education. In my time at Vassar, I was selected to join the school's Jazz Band as the sole bassist my Freshman year, I played bass in the orchestra where I spent time as the principal bassist, and led a small Jazz combo as well. Not only am I able to teach both bass and guitar, I can teach a wide variety of genres and playing styles.
I first began teaching at the age of sixteen. I was hired to work at Berkshire Summer Music, a music camp for talented young children. I worked as a violin and viola instructor, teaching children of all ages, assisting with their technique and helped develop good practicing habits. Since then, I have worked at a variety of music camps, where I have taught bass, guitar, songwriting, and led a variety of ensembles. As I got older and more experienced, I began to teach year round as well to students of all ages.
For those who are just starting on an instrument, I usually focus on basic technique. Bass and guitar are both physical instruments in their own way, and getting acclimated to the feel of it is key to having success on it. For bass, I typically teach out of the Suzuki book series, while as for guitar, I use the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, however, I am happy to teach whatever method a student or their parents feel strongly about. I tailor my teaching ability to each student, and make sure that the experience is first and foremost an enjoyable one
I understand that as a teacher, my job is to not just teach the instrument or a song, but to inspire a deep, passionate love for music. The teachers that had the biggest impact on me and that I enjoyed the most were the ones who cared the most about my relationship to the music I was playing. Because of this, I make sure the student is always engaged in what they are playing and are enjoying it. I try to build an atmosphere that feels safe for them to try new things, always showing encouragement while never pushing a student too hard. It is a joy and a privilege to teach music, and I hope that my students feel the same way about learning.
Aaron is an amazing teacher! He taught me basic guitar and tutored me during my college music theory course. He does an amazing job of explaining things in a way that anyone can understand, no matter their level of music experience. He's a talented musician and an incredibly kind and patient teacher -- I would recommend him to anyone!
Aaron is incredible! I had been playing rhythm guitar for a few years, but Aaron instructed me not only on the basics of lead guitar/soloing, but how to be comfortable with it. I never would have felt comfortable playing on stage without Aaron's encouragement and wisdom. He's beyond patient, caring, and has such an infectious love of all music that just makes you want to keep at it! If you want a knowledgeable, friendly teacher who's great at adapting to how YOU best learn, Aaron's your man!
Aaron is a phenomenal teacher who really understands his students. He teaches both of my children, and not only is he incredible with kids, but his ability to teach a wide range of instruments has allowed my kids to explore a number of instruments and musical styles. Not only are they improving, but they've become more excited about music since starting with Aaron, I highly recommend him!
