I have had a passion since I was 6 years old for music, I recieved B.S in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Central Michigan University and an Associates in Dance from University of Michigan. During which times I also performed with Flint Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Michigan Symphony, and the Symphony Orchestra of Leon. I have received the level of Miestre or Master in Capoiera (African Brazilian Dance Marital Art) because of this training I am a Master Djembe Player. I have playing the violin since I was six years old and have performed with the Flint Symphony Orchestra as well as bands and ensembles. I have been playing piano for 15 years and have a minor from Central Michigan University.
I began teaching career my senior year of college, since then I have taught privately and collectively for the past 15 years. I have taught classical, broadway, gospel, Latin, Indian, and African forums of music in variety of ways. Private or small group lessons have always been my favorite, because more attention and passion can be put into the music. I have taught all age groups and i love assisting students in discovering their passion for music. My intent is to find the passion behind each student, and to assistant them in their musical goals.
For beginning students I always begin with a methods book, I believe that good fundamentals are what makes a good musician, but I also teach ear training methods thereby giving the student the best in both worlds. Once the fundamentals and foundation are efficient, then according to the instrument I move to solo repertoire or experimentation or interpretation. I believe finding a students passion and making the learning experience as educational and enjoyable as possible. Practice, diligence, patience, and hard work all have their rewards, but enjoying the process makes it all worth while.
There is nothing more rewarding then to see a student achieve and accomplish a goal. I believe and always positively affirming and acknowledging there accomplishments. Positive reinforcement and encouragement always assist the student to strive and succeed. I always give my student the choice to decide between multiple pieces, but I always choose pieces with a new technique or concept, so the student is consistently learning. My job is to discovery the students desires then to formulate a lesson plan that will not only stimulate, educate and challenge but also make the learning experience enjoyable.
