Overview:
I am a fun and very versatile guitar instructor who loves taking a student to the next level with their guitar in which ever style they may be interested in. I just recently graduated from the University of Arkansas with a guitar degree in Jazz and Classical with a minor in German. I was the lead singer/guitar player for a Blues/Jazz band in highschool and played with a few local band in Fayetteville, AR where I went to school. I am currently living in the Farmers Branch/Addison area looking to further my teaching experience while also playing live music. I feel I am very good at being patient and explaining techniques to students of all levels.
EXPERIENCE
I got my first guitar in the summer of 2001 and found the guitar was a great hobby when I was bored and couldn't find anything else to do. My passion for the guitar grew exponentially when I started getting better at it. I recieved only a few lessons from private intructors before I went to college and learn how to 'really' play the guitar. Two summers ago I had my first students and it was great to be on the other side as an instructor. In my most current semesters at college I had 5 students who I saw grow greatly at the guitar as their passion for music grew as well. I very much enjoy teaching and watching first hand a student become better at the instrument.
METHODS USED
I will use what I learned at the University of Arkansas in my teaching methods and approach the guitar in a classical sense, meaning properly learning chords, scales, arpeggios and so on. I will have books that the student will learn songs and techniques from depending on the direction they want to go musically. If there is a specific song the student wants to learn I will help them work their way through it note by note. I will also encourage the student to engage their singing voice as this will help them with chord changes and expand their musical abilities.
LESSON STYLE
I will first understand what direction the student wants to go musically, whether it be playing chords and singing or being entirely a solo guitarist. From there we can understand what style they want to be playing as I would encourage having a basic understanding of all musical styles. I will also encourage them to have a basic understanding of music theory, for I believe this to be very important in order to understand concepts of music and be able to communicate them. I will set realistc goals and hope to see improvement from the student week to week through devotion and practice. I plan on making it possible for them to get everything they want out of the guitar in order for them to be truly proud of their progression and success!
