I started performing as tenor first when I was 12 years old with the First Baptist Church of Managua City, which they made two annual concerts on the National Theater per year that first would involve performing Classical Music choir performances and the second performance would be dedicated for Christmas, this under the direction of the Jorge Bojorge, who was the director the National Conservatory of Music UPOLI, back then. After I turned 16 and right after I started college I attended the College Choir with one of the most known composers from Nicaragua, Juan Manuel Mena. Same year I started attending to Lyrical Singing Lessons with another very known composer and opera singer, Mario Rocha. I performed with both clinics in the capital city and many other cities around the country for years but I kept it persistent with Lyrical Singing. I received private lessons for guitar for around five to six years and then started giving them myself at the institution. Lyrical Singing helped me introduce myself in the opera world and had me performed on Opera Festivals every year as part of the choir and also with solo roles at the National Theater. I received a State Scholarship to study opera and Italian at the INCANTO Foundation, which was a private presidential school for young high talented opera singers from Nicaragua from which I studied for about three years and performed with them multiple times a year on the National Theater the presidency and multiple cities around the country.
I first started teaching after I went good around middle school. I was giving charity classes to a bunch of friends from school who later decided to follow up their guitar studies academically and I gave them the foundation. I started teaching because my teacher said I was already good enough and if I could help him teach the other students, so I did until he retired and me and my Duo Partner took over the school. I given History of Music as a regular teacher on other schools and private lessons on different subjects. I have worked with children with ages from 6 years old to 50 year old people. There's is no age for learning if you really like music.
For beginning students I make sure we know every warm up exercise and stretching exercises for the fingers after explaining the importance of rehearsing properly. We will start getting familiarized with a couple circles until the student fluently knows how to accompany every chord. After we are going to learn scales so they also familiarized with licks and comp. After the student does fluently the exercises we will see what the student is mainly interested on learning regarding genre of music for it the process is full of joy.
I really take a look at what the student needs to learn and what the student wants to learn because I've seen a lot of students giving up because the institution or teacher is giving to much theory and very poor practice. I try to balance those responsibilities to a point that the student will always be learning something new as long as I work on their motivation and consistency of keeping up so they can learn how to play anything they like and want. I have experienced that when the student chooses the direction where they want to be leaded, they will stay on the courses for longer.
I started studying with Aaron months ago. At first it was hard for me to pick up. Learning a new instrument is like learning a new language. However Aaron was patient and supportive. Now I can play various songs and work on my own style!
