I am a super passionate and motivated music educator who loves working with students all ages. I graduated from Albright College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Industry Studies. My major encompasses all aspects of the music industry including business, entertainment law, education, songwriting, and music theory. I have performed on campus as well as in the Burlington, NJ area as a busker. I also sang in the chamber choir where I got to sing at the Empire State Building and visited Aaron Copland’s house in New York. I also had the amazing opportunity to sing at the Curtis School of Music in Philadelphia for a master class. All these experiences have really helped me learn and grow as a musician. I’m excited to share my love of music with you!
My experience began with an internship at the Diller-Quaile School of Music in NYC. I assisted in teaching students from underprivileged school districts by taking them to their classes, encouraging them to play/sing along, and perform for them as well. I earned a certificate in continuing teaching and leadership education from this internship. Later on, I started teaching private lessons at a local music school the last 2 years. I’ve been teaching voice, piano, synthesizer, guitar, and ukulele. I have recently learned bass guitar as well. I encourage students to practice at least 20-30 minutes a day because even that little amount of time makes all the difference. I also love to incorporate creativity in my lessons with songwriting and improvisation. I also encourage students to participate in recitals as well. I am also the Director of the Early Childhood Program at the local music school so I have a lot of experience with ages 0-4 too. Always looking to bring on new students!
For children and adult piano students, I like using Piano Adventures from primer to the adult version. For guitar, I like using Hal Leonard Guitar Method books. For ukulele, I like to use Hal Leonard ukulele method books. For my little singers I like to use Blankenbelher’s “Singing Lessons for Little Singers” to get them started. For my adults I like to use “Absolute Beginners - Voice” to show them vocal warm ups, breathing exercises and more. Once they start understanding the fundamentals, I allow them to write their own original songs and show them repertoire of genres they’d like to play. I like to keep my lessons creative, fun and engaging no matter the ability level.
My teaching style consists of setting realistic short term and long term goals for my students. I always make sure my students understand the material I am showing them. I encourage them to challenge themselves to achieve their goals they never thought they could achieve. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
