I am a professional licensed teacher that plays guitar every spare minute that I'm not teaching someone else how to do so! I graduated from my Bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University in 2018, and am currently enrolled at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I have played in numerous bands over the years, and currently record music in my home studio as a hobbyist. I have played for numerous weddings, churches, and other gig events that require proficiency of both electric and acoustic guitar.
I began tutoring guitar while in college, which quickly led to a career in education. I have consistently taught music in addition to my full-time job as a classroom teacher for over five years now. My main desire is to impart the same level of passion that my own music teachers instilled within me. I have found that music is one of the most successful ways to balance our lives as we become older and busier. I focus on intrinsic motivation for my students; I will ensure that you find success in your desired genre both early and consistently.
I begin lessons by discussing areas of interest with my students; it is important to me that we are making successful progress toward your individualized goals, whether that might mean recording, performing, or casually playing in your bedroom. I am very flexible in my teaching style, and can confidently teach a variety of genres and techniques that suit your interests. I rely on a combination of synchronized practice, workbooks, and especially teaching videos. I am highly student-focused and believe that learning guitar can be fun and enjoyable every step of the way.
I am adept at aligning my teaching style with the preference of the student. Having spent four years in a traditional classroom, I am able to modify and differentiate instruction based on your particular learning needs. I have met many students that enjoy a classical performance-driven model (i.e., those that desire a recital to demonstrate their progress), as well as students that simply want to play any song they want to Google that day. The key takeaway you will have from my lessons is that we will make this process about you and your own music journey.
