Master Degree: Texas State University
Master Degree
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love for music. In 2017 I graduated with my BA in Music with an emphasis on Tuba from Texas State University. In 2018 I started my graduate work in Jazz Studies at Texas State University and will complete my degree in the Fall of 2019. Currently, I actively gig in the San Antonio and Austin areas three to four times a week with the bulk of my work coming from Jazz and Salsa gigs. However, I have done work in the Musical, Country, Tejano, Latin Jazz, and Church arenas. My goal is to build a studio of passionate Bass and Tuba players who love their instruments and strive to become better musicians. I am excited to teach each student everything I know and eager to learn from students as well!
I have been performing on Bass and Double bass since I was fourteen years old. I have performed for various formal events, TMEA, weddings, Club gigs, Musicals, etc. I have had the pleasure of performing with jazz legends like John Riley, J. J Johnson, and Butch Miles just to name a few. I went on a salsa tour throughout the west coast in 2016. I have had the pleasure of performing with the Top Jazz and Salsa Ensembles at Texas State University. I am new to the Teaching arena but confident that my playing experience we offer insight into what it is like for students who are ready to get out there and start gigging themselves.
My methods include a number of fundamentals that include scales, technique and learning how to get around the instrument with ease and versatility. For beginners, I like to focus on the George Vance techniques and teaching in order to build a strong foundation. At the intermediate level, I like to find out what the students find interesting and cater the lesson plans around that. Same applies for adult students, I like to see where their interest are and focus on those aspects during the lessons while ensuring that their fundamental chops are at the level they need to be.
I love the Bass guitar and Double Bass and it is my goal to find and teach the students who have this same passion for the instrument. In my opinion, the bass is the most essential instrument in ANY ensemble and so if you learn to play the bass well enough you are on the track for success in any genre you wish to play. I am a very relaxed individual and this transfers to my teaching style. I will go at the pace that I believe is best for each individual student, but make sure their goals are reached in a manner that they feel comfortable with. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs
