I am a passionate and dedicated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of piano. In 2009 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Music from the University of Saint Joseph. At that time I was taking piano lessons at the University of Hartford and teaching my own students. After graduation, I worked at Music Makers Academy in Manchester, CT for a few years before continuing to teach private lessons. I have taught privately ever since! I especially love working with beginners as I have a passion for teaching students how to read music. I would love to work with you and share my love of both music and learning with you!
My name is Abbey, and I have been teaching piano for over 18 years, both privately and at a music academy. I specialize in beginners of all ages, and I also teach through the intermediate level. My passion is to teach my students how to read music and gift them the beauty and joy of playing the piano. I would love to work with you! The youngest students I teach are 5 or 6 years old, and I have no age cap for adults! I minored in music in college and have years of lessons under my belt. I continue to learn and I look forward to meeting you and helping you along your piano playing journey!
For beginning students, particularly children, I use the Piano Adventures books. I recommend the student getting their Lesson, Theory, and Technique & Artistry books to start. From there I will add in popular and classical pieces based on the student’s interest and ability. I do almost the same for teens and adults, just using the Piano Adventures adult books. I have used this method for almost my whole career and been nothing but pleased with the content. Progress is incredibly important to me, so each lesson I give has clear instruction and at the end clear expectations for the next week(s) practicing.
I am a compassionate, steady teacher. I believe in positive reinforcement paired with goals that students can be proud of meeting. I have high standards for my students in order that they progress, but at the same time I am understanding and kind in my style. Every lesson I give has clear instruction and at the end I outline a clear expectation for the next lesson. For example, what music needs to be practiced and what specific skills need to be focused on that week. I feel very strongly about my students making consistent progress and I love to help make that happen!
Abby is an amazing teacher, gentle and kind. I loved every moment of her time with my daughter. She is an awesome teacher!
