I am an instructor who really loves what I do. I have been to many different states and Countries around the world performing music. I enjoy share my God given talents to other interested people. I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts with inference in music education. I love music so much, I returned back to school to take addition composition and educational courses. Yes, this happens when you love music as much as I do. I have been an educator since a child. I use to assist the band Director in Jr. High and In High school. I also did the same thing in college as I was the 1st chair section leader. Today, I still love Teaching.
1My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
My starting point for my students is typically having them practice posture, hand position and proper mouthpiece placement. After this has been satisfied, I have the students blow using a breathing exercise. From this, I have the students play the first three notes out of their Habits of Good Musician Book 1. Students will continue in the book and proceed to their daily lesson exercises until they are ready to play other higher level music pieces. I ask the students if they would like to prepare for a solo. If so, i will select a piece that is on their level to perform. With my advance students I prepare them for any of the competitions of their choice.
My teaching style comes from a combination from my middle school ,high school and college instructors. Also , from some of my private lesson teachers and professional Music Teacher colleagues. I love a music teacher and I enjoy Teach a great gifted skill. My goal is for all of my students to be the best that they can be at whatever they are planning to perform for. I'm ready and they will be ready. My Teaching style show growth and improvement within my students. I once taught a small group of kids. Once these students joined the other group, they were among the top players in combined group of other students. My style teaches discipline, motivation, etiquette and lessons about life as a successful musician.
