Music is one of my greatest passions. I enjoy helping others discover or rediscover their love of music through a sensible approach and truly attempt to craft my teaching style to fit the indiviudal needs of each student. I think music should be a form of both creative expression and enjoyment - never a means to feel frustration or pressure. I completed my degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006 in music performance with an emphasis in jazz studies. I have played in over forty states, and continue to perform regularly with various groups in the Denver Colorado area.
I have taught private and group lessons for the past ten years and love working with students of all ages and abilities. I like to craft my lessons to the needs and desires of each individual student (and thier parents), resulting in a comprehensive program that not only allows the student to progress technically, but embrace and build their love of music as welll. I can teach in a variety of styles. I also enjoy teaching via a 'comprehensive' methodology, thus enabling my students to not just play the music, but understand it as well. One can easily play the notes of a Bach minuet with enough practice - but to understand the music in its true-form, why it sounds the way it does, etc. is something entirely different.
I like to first assess what is the primary goal of the student and progress from there. Teaching methods that are too strict or too generic can often leave a lasting impression on a student (and not a good one!) Thus, I attempt to make all students feel comfortable and secure - with an understanding that mistakes are necessary to progress forward.
My teaching styles varies by student but it always rooted in patience, understanding, and my own love for music. I encourage students to set their own goals and hence be responsible and committed to the progress they wish to achieve.
