Course Work: University of Arizona
As you know I am Adrian J.. But, I'm currently a music-minor student for the Fred Fox School of Music at the University of Arizona. I have gone through a few years of large ensembles up to this point High school ensemble (Wind Ensemble) Tucson Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Central (AZ) Region Band/Orchestra All-State (AZ) Band UA Wind Symphony Marana Winds UA Philharmonic Orchestra After I obtain my music minor from the University of Arizona, I plan to private teach, audition for orchestras and join community groups to keep playing. Also for my YouTube video, skip to 1:03:27 / 1:38:00 (this is where I actually play) Solo De Concours (Rabaud - 1873) Favorite clarinetist is between Anthony McGill, Martin Frost, or Richard Stoltzman, Han Kim.
I am new to teaching, especially online. I begin teaching in my early college days as a freshman/sophomore to those I knew who would reach out to me for lessons. They were my acquaintances. We went through mostly preliminary skills, embouchure, consistent tone, tuning, knowing how you play and how your clarinet functions. Though keep in mind this was a couple years ago. Through ensembles and playing in a clarinet studio I feel I have developed a solid background. Through my own exploration I have slowly evolved my teaching abilities.
So many methods that I may tend to use. But generally having scale pages, etudes, maybe a ensemble/solo piece may help as well. I feel it is essential to develop skills before playing solo pieces, though slowly working through them is also tolerable. Consistent practice is key, 15 minutes to an hour each day is y general advice. It can be very efficient or it can be maybe only focusing on 3 bars. It's up to you. Rose Etudes Alfred Uhl Etudes Baermann Method Book Jean-Jean Exercises J.B. Albert - so so so many pieces can be used.... Stay positive! As long as you put in the work with the right mindset I am sure you can do anything. Through these various methods I hope to build up your own confidence as not only a musician but as a clarinet player specifically.
I am new. I would not say that I have a set teaching style yet. My point of view has been shaped and molded from those who have previously taught me. In my lessons I am sure I can reciprocate these past teachings to an adequate degree. I have only taught 2 students in person. But, generally I would like to develop basic skills first, breathing, posture, embouchure, angle of neck/face. In my experience scales and exercises seems to be very beneficial, its something that cannot have last priority, as these are what make up your playing. I also will likely give one etude of mine or your choice per week or two. Also having a repertoire piece is vital, something to demonstrate skills, this can also be represented through ensemble pieces. I will to do my best for you since I am very passionate about music and specifically clarinet! My previous teachers have been Gloria Dorado Orozco, Dr. Jackie Glazier, Dr. Daniel Becker, Rosemary Bush.
