As a Soprano and concert soloist based in the Los Angeles area, I have performed with professional-level groups in the LA area, including Areté Vocal Ensemble and many more. I have a Bachelor's and studied voice and theater while I've also worked with artists of the Grammy award-winning Los Angeles Master Chorale. I have also performed with the Los Angeles Children's Chorus and Young Men's Ensemble, California Philharmonic, and San Francisco Lyric Opera. As a frequent soloist with the LA-based vocal arts group Artes Vocales for several years conducted Dr. Kronauer (Munich Opera), I have performed solos from Mozart and Vivaldi to French art songs and Gilbert & Sullivan. I love singing art songs to jazz and musical theater to baroque pop. I truly enjoy bringing a positive and relaxed but focused mindset to my lessons with students.
I teach vocal technique for singers of all ages and levels within a holistic approach to free the vocal instrument. Lessons are fun and empowering as we learn to support the vocal instrument with breath support and fluid alignment. Singing is a total body activity and mastering the breath is key to good and healthful singing. My background as a singer and teacher is influenced by the Alexander Technique, which is phenomenally effective in building healthy singing without strain and frustration. We begin with gradual warm-ups then move onto the student's chosen selection, working on melody and rhythm before learning text and interpreting the arc of the song. Whether it's an uptempo musical theater ballad, a Mozart aria, jazz or pop selection, we end with working on capturing the artistry and vocal style of a chosen piece. Come in and work on improving your singing or prepare for your next studio recording, audition, performance, or karaoke gig with friends!
I personally practice SOVT, where we start with light humming, use a semi-occluded means of vocalizing (such as lip trills or a straw in water) to gradually warm-up the vocal cords and bring the breath under the voice for adequate support. Then we move on to actual vocalizations. Over several lessons, we work on a chosen piece together and begin building repertoire appropriate to the singer. It's very important for me to see my students progress without tension and learn to sing with ease and build breath support and ear training over time. Vocal health and improving vocal quality across a singer's range is also of utmost importance. I tailor lessons according to the singer's level of proficiency and the complexity of the material or repertoire covered. Whether the goal is to prepare for an audition or simply improve your singing voice, we then tackle the fun part of performance, where I guide students in bringing the story of the character and song to life.
