ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelor Degree: Central Methodist University, Professional Certificate: Kindermusik International
Overview:

I am passionate about music and I love working with students that share that passion and curiosity. I graduated from Central Methodist University with my Bachelor of Arts degree. I currently teach group piano lessons (Ages 3-6), private lessons (Ages 4-12), Kindermusik (Ages 0-4), as well as I am the Music teacher for the Lab school (Ages 3-6) in Kirkwood. When I'm not teaching you can find me performing around the St. Louis area. I have sang with the Bach Society of St. Louis, as well as I am one of the paid section leaders at First Congregational Church of St. Louis in Clayton. During the holiday season you can find me down on Main Street St. Charles performing/singing with the Christmas Tradition festival.

EXPERIENCE

I've been giving lessons since I was in high school, but I was able to expand the instruments I'm able to teach from my college training. I have been teaching with Webster's Community Music School for the past year and a half and I have had great success with teaching young beginners, although I have started older kids and even adults with great success (I just use a different curriculum with older students). I teach in home, so I come to you. I encourage students to do recitals (I'm putting one on in April) to allow students the opportunity to practice performing. I am looking to add some more students to my studio starting the beginning of the year.

METHODS USED

For young beginner students (Ages 3-7) I typically start them with the Music for Little Mozart Series (4 books total). I pair that with fun music games, rhythm practice, listening activities and other misc. activities. At this age it is difficult for them to sit at the piano bench for the whole lesson so we only spend about half the lesson (but split up) at the piano and the other half learning basic music concepts through games. For older students (7+) I usually start them in the Bastian Series as it goes pretty quickly into playing. This is also a more intensive series and we generally spend the majority of the lesson at the piano. But we will still have rhythm activities and listening activities we do away from the piano. Sometimes with the elementary age students we will still do some fun movement games as well.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I will have you have an assignment notebook where I write what your "sticker song" will be for the following week; this way it's clear what your assignment is. I acknowledge accomplishments and growth which then fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.

Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
