About myself I am a professional musician in Reno area working with 2 different groups. I have toured the country with several bands in various styles from Rock , Jazz, Gospel and soul. I have a passion for teaching others to play and understand music as a language of creativity. I have a degree in music from SF State University and have been teaching students in WA and CA for 25 years and am new in Reno for 1 year now. I custom tailor my lessons to what you want to learn any style of music. I teach from the basic concepts of music - harmony, melody, rhythm, theory, arrangement, improvisation and can help any student understand these in simple ways. I really enjoy seeing my students progress and and fulfill there hopes and dreams in music.

My teaching experience started many years ago with a few students who were interested in learning jazz and improvisational music. I have taught group classes and one on one now for 25 years. I have much experience working with beginner and young students making their first attempts at playing an instrument as well as players already proficient at the guitar who want to brach out and learn new things. I prefer to teach students who can commit to a regular scheduled weekly lesson as Ive found the consistant work on an instrument is what really produces the most positive results and enjoyment for the student.
I customize my curriculum to the needs of the student and the things they would like to learn. From basic note and chords to substitutions and harmony. Within that I always give an understanding of basic music theory in a practical way that the student can apply to their playing. . For those who want to go deeper in music I teach advanced concepts, improvisation and song writing. For beginning students I mix basic chords and melody to help them play songs that they can enjoy. I promote performance as a motivational tool to set deadlines for learning whether that is a school recital, living room with the family or on a stage.
My basic approach to teaching is to evaluate where the student will be most able to gain skill and knowledge that helps them reach whatever their musical goal is. I customize my teaching to each students needs and abilities to optimize success and progress. I found thru my years of teaching hundreds of students that the ones who feel they got something they were wanting to learn are the most motivated to keep going. Music is a life long endeavor that requires patients and practise to reach your goals. I help outline a path for the student and get them started on it. My style is to move as fast as the student can grasp and to push them a little to go further without giving them more than they can chew.
