I'm a a dedicated and passionate young instructor who seeks to bring the best out of all my students. I have been a musician for over 10 years and have experience playing several instruments including Concert/Orchestral Percussion, Drums, Piano, and Synthesizer. In the past I have performed with the orchestra, concert bands, and the drum line as well as side projects of my own including solo and ensemble performances. I've had the grand opportunity of performing at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Center on two occasions. I've performed at concerts, parades, and organized community events. My love for music and teaching knows no bounderies and I believe that music is the language we can all use to express emotions and natural talents!
During high school I was selected by my band instructor to teach and mentor new percussion and drum students. I've had teaching experience since High school as a young teen, and have continued teaching on a freelance basis throughout the years. Currently I teach seveal students and I've learned that disipline within learning music is very important. It's also important to find different techniques for teaching students and adjusting to each student. I love sharing my knowledge of music and I am passionate about bringing out the talent in each and every one of my students!
For children and adults who are beginners I tend to use the Orff Approach as well as the Dalcroze Method. With thses methods I cnan engage the student with the music while they use their mind and body to learn the basics of music. I like to first teach students to read sheet music and learn the importance of meter and time siganture. I then move on to more techniques as they learn. I use my own lesson plans as well and try to find the best appraoch to teaching each student in particular, since we all learn differently. For more intermeddiate learners, I use several methods. First I seek to learn their level of knowledge so I can have a better starting point to advance their knowledge and skills.
Teaching is one of the most rewarding careers there can be! As I have stated before I love sharing my knowledge for music and I think its important to communicate with my students and observe them to see how they approach the learning. I like to personally adjust and tailor each session to the student and their level so that they can learn at their own pace. Keeping a positive attitude during the session is a must and it keeps the student engaged and happy while also learning! All learning of music can be made fun!
