I am 23 and have been working in music since I was 11 when I started to learn mixing and DJ techniques through the internet. I did this until I was 13 and picked up guitar through my middle school's Mariachi program. I have been playing guitar now for 10 years and have played multiple genres from mariachi, punk, metal, indie, alternative, and I now record and produce music for my bands as well as others. I have had the chance to play in places such as the Bomb Factory, Trees, The Door, and other small DIY venues around DFW.
I began teaching when I was 17 after I made friends who were younger through the mariachi summer camp. I taught music theory and the overall style of how to learn and build chords based on key signatures. Being able to show these kids so much about their instrument made me want to some day become a good tutor for someone else in need of lessons that are straight forward and to the point without having to worry about a tutor that's hard to work with. I know what it's like to not have a proper tutor and I have learned plenty of what not to do through my experiences and my goal is to make learning guitar an easy process.
Every student starting off deserves to feel comfortable and stress free when learning. Music is there to help us let go of every day life and to have something to express our creativity. No one should feel like playing music is a job and anything the student wishes to learn will be taught to them in a friendly environment. Students will learn everything to help them get started on their journey of playing the music they love the most and getting a nice jump start towards becoming teachers themselves.
For all students that are beginners, I will start off by teaching them the important things about the guitar such as the names of the strings, how the guitar works, and how to properly tune. We will go over basic theory at first and then start learning some simple melodies and chord progressions. For students that are more intermediate and want to learn a style of music, I will break down the basic elements of what the guitar incorporates into that style of music. I'll also go over what kind of gear they could look into getting for a specific style they're interested in.
