Overview:
During my years in Poland I was acclaimed for my exceptional way of interpreting the romantic composers and specially the music of Frederic Chopin. I performed concerts throughout Poland and Germany, most importantly at the Chopin’s Birth Place in Zelazowa Wola, under Chopin’s Monument in Wlazieki Park, The Ostrogski Palace and The Grand Theater in Warsaw. Once in New York City I debuted at Carnegie Hall in 1993 where I played Albeniz, Schumann and Chopin. I was invited by American/Cuban pianist Liliana Fleites who assigned me Chopin Master Classes at the Steinvorth Hall in Venezuela to commemorate the 200 anniversary of Frederic Chopin’s birth. I closed the event playing Concerto with Orchestra in f minor.
EXPERIENCE
Both, Music performance and music education have always been my passion. I began to teach piano at the young age of 19 years old at the Alejandro Garcia Caturla Conservatory of Music in Havana, Cuba. Attending Master Clases and Concerts helped me achieve a maturity level of teaching piano throughout my years in Cuba, Poland and The United States. I encourage anyone who feels a desire to learn piano to follow their heart and go for it no matter their age. Music inspires our lives and enriches our souls.
METHODS USED
My teaching methods vary by students specifications. I first work engaging beginners with piano pieces that gradually go from easiest to more complicated. The most important element is to keep the student focused through the entire class. For early ages I usually use playing, singing, exploring the instrument before reading the book. This way has always help me to get children motivated and ready to learn and read. It also breaks their shyness right from the trial or first lesson. Piano methods that have given me me great results are Alfred’s and John Thomson. For intermediate levels I choose Ana Magdalena Bach, Czerny, Moszkowsky, some Chopin and Schumann pieces and Clementy.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style incorporates a fusion of what I learned from my teachers in Cuba, Poland and the US. I work with students in achieving a clarity in their performances, phrase inflection and right fingering for best interpretation results. I always give students choices for piano pieces they would prefer or feel more comfortable playing. At the same time I always try to address those pieces that can aid them develop the best technique through diverse styles from baroque, classic, romantic and contemporary.
