I am a very dedicated, passionate, and hardworking instructor who loves to spread my love of music to students of all ages. In 2010, I graduated from the first degree granting Historically Black Institution, The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Vocal Performances and a minor in piano performance. In 2018, I graduated from Morgan State University with a Masters of Arts in Music. As a musician, Performing around the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life. I have had opportunities to perform and tour with the world renowned Morgan State University Choir.
I have been teaching students private voice and piano for 6 years. Encouraging a consistent schedule is one of the key points that I like to emphasize for younger and new students. This will help students progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've found that a combination of different genre's, such as classical and modern day music, can help students enjoy the piano/voice and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. My main goal is for students to have a fun and safe learning experience. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I am always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
Piano: For beginning students who are children, i typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Methods. Once students have developed the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in. I will then guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun no matter their ability level.
Voice: For beginning students, I will explore the voice types (Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Tenor, Baritone, Bass) by learning vocal scales in order to determine the repertoire appropriate for each individual student. I will find out what students are interested in singing. I will then guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
It is very rewarding when I see students develop a passion for music! I believe it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. In each lesson, I set realistic goals for each student. I help fuel students desire to progress and allow students to be eager to learn more by acknowledging their accomplishments. I give each student the room to express his or herself freely. I try to find out what inspires the student and successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
