I hold a Master's Degree in Trumpet Performance from Long Island University C.W Post and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education K-12 from Manhattanville College. I am in my third year as the Director of local High School Marching Band as well as a sitting member of the New York State Field Band Conference Executive Council as a Representative. Prior to this, I had performed in a variety of marching ensembles which include: The Tappan Zee Bridgeman, Featured soloist with the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, Featured soloist with the West Sayville Golden Eagles Mini Corps, and a member of the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps. As an educator, I currently teach the a Long Island Drum and Bugle Corps as the trumpet technician, and served on the staffs of Fusion "Core" Drum and Bugle Corps, Huntington High School Marching Band (2014 Undefeated NYSFBC Large School 3 Champions), Mineola High School Marching Band, Copiague High School Marching Band, Director of the Longwood Lions Marching Band, and serves as the drill designer and program consultant for the Long Beach Marines Marching Band. Outside of the Marching Arts, I am a freelance musician in the tri-state area.
I have been teaching trumpet since 2008 where I have been giving private, in home instruction. All of my students take part in the NYSSMA festival and annually score at the top of their class. Some students have made it into the SCMEA, NYSCAME, and All-State Festivals. I am a trained classical trumpeter and I am proficient on the Bb, C, Eb, A piccolo, G Bugle, and Flugelhorn trumpets. As a freelance musician in the tri-state area I play in a variety of ensembles which include: swing bands, symphonic orchestras, musicals, operas, parade bands, and various community bands.
The methods used in my trumpet studio focus solely on the fundamentals of playing trumpet. For all ages, there is a focus on building breath support, dexterity, and range. For the intermediate and advanced players, there is a focus on transpositions, sight-reading, dexterity, and learning standard trumpet repertoire. All of my lessons are tailored around the student and adhere to the New York State Standards for Music. Methods and other books I use include but are not limited to: Clarke, Gekker, Bai Lin, Schlossberg, Getchell, Concone, and the Amsden's 68 Duets.
I absolutely love to see my students succeed not only inside the classroom, but outside as well. All of my lessons are light, friendly, and inspiring. All lessons are fast paced and fun. All of my student's will be required to set up a practice schedule to ensure the goals agreed upon by both the student and the teacher are met. Aside from musical instruction, I also ask many self-reflection questions to my students so that they are conscious and aware of their individual progress and performance.
