My name is Alex. I am a native of Washington, DC and I perform as a classical cellist. I started cello at the age of 7 at Levine Music school. I started performing at various events. Venues included: The White House, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Fort DuPont Park arena. I have dedicated community performances for the likes of the Mayor of Washington DC, D.C. Councilmembers and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. My venture R.E.M. (Relaxing Everyone thru Music) started as community service and blossomed into a sought-after entertainment service in the local area. From there, I received a scholarship from Hampton University. While in attendance, I was the principal cellist. I graduated from Hampton University with a BA Degree in Music Performance with honors. Upon graduation, I returned to the DC Metropolitan Area and has since joined the DC Strings Orchestra. I also enjoy dancing, acting and gaming.
My qualifications include my BA Degree in Cello Performance. I tutored other students in music theory, cello skills and technique as an undergraduate at Hampton University. I studied the violoncello at Levine Music school. I attended St. John DeMatha Catholic High School and Hampton University where I was principal in the Sinfonia Orchestra, Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras. I am currently affiliated with DC Strings Orchestra. I am a music teacher facilitator at Gymboree Play & Music. I participated in the Levine International Orchestra Project 2021 which was a virtual collaboration with musicians from around the world.
My program involves using Essential Elements Books, Suzuki Books/Methods, Scale Books, and Dotzauer Books.Weekly instructions include: practicing scales, skill builder exercises and concentration on individual students' solo selections. Students repertoire includes traditional music books, skills book, etudes and songs. Suzuki Essential Elements are books of choice for music. Dotzauer, Klengel and Popper among others are books of choice for etudes. Scales are chosen from various sources and methods.
I offer a traditional string class. It includes Essential Elements and Suzuki Books. I also have recommended materials for diverse and interesting cello studies. I like to work with children of all ages and I enjoy helping them develop new skills, especially in the area of music performance. Starting cello lessons at a young age I am well aware of what was required of teachers and instructors to get me to be the cellist I am today. I want to offer the same to my students. It is important and I am inspired to give back to students what was given to me. I find it rewarding to instill in students an art where they can express themselves.
