Having studied Music for almost 20 years I have always wanted to give the gift of music to others through education. After high school I became a marching band coach for 3 years assisting in teaching various sections and leadership positions. I have performed in many cities across the United States as well as internationally. I have had the opportunity to perform in several musical productions both on stage and in the pit orchestra, musicals from Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, The Music Man, Footloose, Anything Goes, to Ragtime. During my early college years I have performed with the Saddleback Wind Ensemble, Saddleback Symphony Orchestra, and Saddleback Big Band. During my music studies I had private musical instruction by Ben Lulich, principal clarinetist of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, as well as private conducting instructions for two years.
My teaching experience immediately began after high school, as I began teaching lessons part time I wanted to grow more as an educator and grasped at the opportunity . I got the opportunity to become a marching band coach for high school. Much of the focus on my work was the testing of the memorization of students' music and music tonality of a section in the marching band whether it be low brass or woodwinds. I also helped with the audition and instructions on section leaders and Drum Majors as well as helped with the preparations of parade routines. I have learned to encourage my students to be better than I ever was at their age (it be they are younger than myself).
All of my students, depending on age, go through my curriculum which not only focuses on solo repertoire but learning how to be an essential part of any ensemble. I make sure I plan individual lessons and create overall schemes of work for my pupils so they can develop knowledge of materials and repertoire for them at different stages of their musical development. I extend my own musical experience by becoming familiar with the music my pupils listen to and music that is assigned from their primary music instructor, as well as have them become familiar with other musical styles and by developing improvisation and vocal skills.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what truly inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and the needs. I keep my instructions engaging and fun, no matter their level.
