Overview:
I am a knowledgeable, passionate, kind, and patient teacher wth over 6 years teaching experience. I love sharing the expressive capabilities of singing with my students and helping them learn to harness this ability to its fullest potential. I received my Master's from LSU in 2017 and my Bachelor's in Music Business is 2010 and have been singing for over 10 years. I've sung in numerous roles around the world since and I have apprenticed with large opera companies such as Des Moines Metro Opera and Sarasota Opera.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught voice for about 6 years starting back in college with a class of vocal pedagogy where we each received a student to practice teaching. I instantly fell in love with teaching and I have been actively teaching since. I take pride in my ability to convey physiological ideas in a way that is easily understood and executable by my students. I am patience, but firm in my insistence in consistent practice. I expect great things out of my students and love watching as they grow into able singers.
METHODS USED
Regardless of age I always start with a new student with the basics: Posture and Breath. Even experienced singers need the occasional return to the basics. From there I begin the take there age into account and start younger students out with basic vocalize and technical adjustments. Older students will start the same, but with a larger focus on removing deep-seated tensions in their technique. Older student will also receive some extended vocalizes. Once I have had some time with a student and can assess their ability, I will assign songs for them to learn (usually after 2-3 lessons). I strive for my lessons to always challenge students to reach that next level and have fun while doing it.
LESSON STYLE
Pushing my students to achieve their fullest potential without burning them out is a quality for which I alway strive. I try to make my lessons fun, but also transformative. With regard to technique, I take a mechanist strategy. We work on each part of the vocal mechanism till it performs optimally and then we work on coordinating the parts so they work cohesively like a fine tuned machine. This is the method my teacher and his teacher used and I feel it works very effectively. I work quickly, but only just quick enough to encourage my students to grow.
