Professional Bassist, composer and Educator with over 20 years of experience performing and teaching around the world. Latin Music( Afro-Caribbean, Brazilian) ,Afro-Puerto rican, Jazz, Latin Jazz, and Classical Music. Double Bass, Electric Bass and Baby Bass (Electric Upright Bass). Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, started working professionally at age 15. Music is a powerful tool, and i want to give back everything i’ve been blessed to learned and experienced in my life and my career.
I’ve been teaching since my High School days. For the past 10 years i’ve been focusing on Individual, private lessons, both person-to-person and online. I teach students of all ages and all levels, focusing on each student’s interests and needs. Students come to me with different questions, interests and needs, and my focus is to adress those in a simple, practical manner. I also teach music theory and the basics of arranging for small ensembles, because nowdays, most students look to perform their own music.
Technique, Listening session, Sight-reading, grooves and/or Bass lines, Rhythm variations, Duet Playing, all using metronomes, charts and Books. I also include a chat about life, music and music-business discipline. For the Double-Bass, i listen to the student’s needs and interests, and we work from there. Mostly Scales, Arpeggios, Intervales, Fingering, Instruments position, all of these with the bow, for better intonation. We listen and analyze records, grooves, concepts, while sharing anecdotes and life/Music philosophies.
The student is the leader, i’m just a guide. “There are no bad students, only bad teachers”. There’s no point in teaching something the student is not interested in. We work together towards the accomplishment of the student’s ’ goals and interests. Teaching is a blessing because i get to give back everything i have learned throughout my career. Coming from a Latin background, i often have a multicultural approach and i always look for the bridge and/or the link(s) that connects our cultures....
