I love music. I love singing. I had always dreamed of a career in music. I loved learning more about music at my college. I performed at all the university talent shows, and coffee shop nights. I always attended the free recitals. I later had the chance to sing for my university's Mercy Choir for about two years, every service. I love how music can show emotion, and share passion. I want to share my gift with others. Please do consider me if you are just starting out, or if you are lacking. Online students, and students not far away are always welcome.
I have been singing for over two decades. Primarily I am a classical operatic type singer. My teaching experience began in college, when I would tutor my peers in various subjects. Later on I taught STEM for about 6 months, and became certified to teach English while student teaching. I have a curiosity, and a knack for music. People tend to think you either can learn, or you cannot. But, I think with the right training, and toolset anyone has potential. Practice will be assigned. Books may be read as assigned. Theory will only take you so far, so it is important you protect your voice. I also like pop, and folk music. So, if those interest you, do not let my love of a certain style deter you. If we cannot laugh I am not doing my job. With effort, and determination we can turn broken notes into sweet melodies. There are little muscles in the throat, and we are going to learn about the voice, as well. I am open to young adults to retirees as students. If you go on to accomplish great things in the music industry, that is reward enough.
There will be no extra purchases. Anything we use that is not included I will link to you online. Youtube videos, and free books may be assigned. What you need to most of all is practice your scales, and anything we went over previously. I will ask you to bring in a piece you like, a song perhaps. We will try our best to get you singing in your own style. I like to keep a professional relationship, while making the studio environment casual. The first lesson I will estimate your level. From there we will work on your personal goals, with what I think would help you succeed.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. You could say this is a type of positive reinforcement. I do not want to make anyone feel bad about their abilities. We will get there. I tend to explain, and then demonstrate. Afterwhich, the student may try to apply it. From there I correct as needed.
