I am a lyric coloratura soprano and voice teacher based in Boston. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Music at New England Conservatory, with a major in Vocal Performance and a concentration in Vocal Pedagogy as well. This is my second year teaching private voice lessons, and this year I had the privilege of teaching music in Boston public schools as a Teaching Artist Intern with the Metropolitan Opera Guild. So far in my career, I have had the opportunity to perform in over 10 operas, 5 musicals, film, and concert work. Although I am classically trained, I enjoy teaching all styles and will work to help your natural voice shine. Whether you are preparing for a role, an audition, or just want to have fun, I would love to work with you!
I began teaching private voice lessons to high school-age children in 2016. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with people ages 5-30. The Metropolitan Opera Guild was an excellent teaching experience, where my mentors included teachers at Lincoln Center and New England Conservatory alumni. As a participant in NEC's Vocal Pedagogy program, I had the experience of teaching lessons to my colleagues in NEC Opera. This year I will be serving as a Voice Teaching Assistant, teaching voice lessons to non-majors as part of their curriculum.
The first half of a typical voice lesson is spent on vocal warm-ups and vocalises. These consist of scales, arpeggios, vowel unification, breath work, etc. and have been accumulated from many teachers over a variety of traditions. Vocalises are the most important part of a solid vocal technique. The second half of lessons is spent working on repertoire either brought in by the student or assigned by myself. Concepts from vocal warm ups will be applied to repertoire, and students are expected to practice on a regular basis outside of lessons. Practicing consistently will help to build the vocal muscles, improve memory retention, and speed up progress!
As a voice teacher, it is very rewarding to watch people grow as musicians and as artists. I love creating music, and that transfers over to helping others harness the power and artistry that we each possess within ourselves. However, talent isn't everything! Without the discipline it takes to practice and be patient with yourself, progress won't be made as quickly. I encourage students to practice regularly, and to set small, attainable goals for each practice session. When it comes to feedback, I believe in specific feedback that brings certain things to students' attention and praises good technique. I ask that you always try your best in lessons, as I will always put my best foot forward to help you advance. I am a very positive and fun individual, and I will always try my best to make your voice lessons not only productive, but a great time!
