Hi! My name is Alexandrea (Alex). I'm a 29 year old Atlanta native with over 20 years of performing experience and over 8 years of teaching experience. My first television performance was at the age of 7 on Showtime at the Apollo, and from there my career as a vocalist took off. I began teaching and provide artist development services at the age of 18 and developed a passion for it. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Agnes Scott College in 2013 with a primary focus in voice and music theory. I am classically trained in voice and piano and enjoy providing unique lesson plans for my students to cater to every artist's individual creative needs.
I began my teaching career in 2009 and have been consistently teaching students of all ages for the past 10 years. My goal was to perfect my teaching style and to really make a difference in the lives of those artists I encountered. I have experience in and have studied a wide range of styles and genres in both voice and piano, and enjoy encouraging my students to reach their full potential. Having fun is my first priority and eliminating the common expectation to be a "certain kind of singer/musician" is my second priority. Music is art, and in my lessons we celebrate our uniqueness, our natural talents, our abilities, and our goals and learn how to find ourselves as artists and improve OURSELVES.
I have many methods because I do not provide the same lesson plan for every student. Not everyone's voice is the same. Not everyone's skill level is the same. Not everyone's level of confidence is the same, and certainly not everyone's way of learning is the same. Knowing this, I focus on every individual's needs, goals, and unique talents to develop a custom lesson plan to ensure true progress. This ensures that every student has consistent progress that works best FOR THEM! Formal exercises, performance workshops, and even fun games are just a few examples of what to expect during a single voice or piano lesson with me!
I strive to create a fun, creative, open minded and productive teaching environment. Every student should expect to learn many techniques that will contribute to finding their voice and style, to have weekly at home exercises to improve their craft, and to build their repertoire. I also like to have open communication. Sometimes, practicing a new skill or art form can be intimidating. Sometimes we fill our minds with crippling doubt and harsh self critiques. I love having "check ins" with my students to allow them to express themselves, their thoughts, and their concerns so that no matter what, they feel safe and comfortable whenever they enter this environment.
