Overview:
I participated in several music salons, lectures and performances, as well as presenting myself as a judge for different piano competitions. In May 2017, I received my dual degree in Master of Piano Performance and advance certificate of Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy. At the same time, I was engaged in different music Performances within and around New York City, including a collaboration project with the Carnegie educational team as well as a collaborated six-sided keyboard performance with the famous music producer/ composer, Mark Mothersbaugh, at the Skirball center. I was also invited to be part of the casting community as a music coach and accompanist for the New York Broadway Show “Loveless Texas.” I was honored to be selected as one of the youngest Steinway & Sons Educational partner in 2017.
EXPERIENCE
I am a graduate student of the New York University Steinhardt School, received my Masters in Piano Performance and Advanced Certificate of Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy in 2017 and was an adjunct faculty at NYU as well for piano and keyboard classes. I believe my teaching experiences, pedagogy abilities, performance techniques and pleasant personality will make our lessons more colorful and very fun. During my graduate studies at Steinhardt, I learned and applied a broad range of teaching strategies, in addition to my much improved and impeccable performance skills. I try to inspire interest in my students, and encouraged them to assume an active responsibility in their own learning. Every one of my students was passionate, hard-working, and happy to continue music education. As part of my student teaching experience, I had the opportunity to work closely with Steinway and Sons, as well as Carnegie Hall. Steinway and Sons invited me to give concerts, teach master classes and give lectures for students of different ages. I used my professional knowledge to perform and teach in these circumstances, and inspired interests for piano beginners. In Carnegie Hall, I collaborated with colleagues to develop goals and experience as we participated in great events and concerts while working next to some of the worlds most esteemed musicians. I also participated in a project by the digital team to do research on different people’s perception of classical music in order to improve future concerts and attract more listeners. My experiences at NYU have trained me to be a better performer, while my experiences beyond graduate school have enhanced my success as a musician. As a foreigner who travelled from afar, I have a deeper understanding of diversity and I respect all differences. Additionally, my work with various students resulted in valuable insights on the success of lessons based on patience, analysis, and commitment.
METHODS USED
I use different methods for different ages of students. It also depends on how and what the student wants to learn about piano, as well as their future goal which related to music. Every year around November and December, I organize a charity concert called "fusion" in Manhattan, students will be invited to perform at the beginning of the concert as our special guests. As well as working with Steinway & Sons, we will hold a student concert every year for giving students a stage to perform. So all the repertoire will be prepared for the daily practice and performance.
LESSON STYLE
As I taught private piano students, I constructed my lesson plans very carefully with clear objectives and goals. I try to provide every student with rich experience, while applying different teaching methods to each individual according to their learning styles, abilities, personality and cultural background. As for group piano classes, many students were not piano players; compared to my private students who were very high level, I taught fundamental piano skills for these non-piano major music students classes, which were in fact difficult. I guided these students to feel the construction of the keyboard, and understand basic piano knowledge such as scales, theories. They were not piano majors, but still I wanted them to be able to think like pianists, which would be extremely beneficial for their future musical career. I interacted with the students as much as possible, as I prefer this type of classroom as a pose to hated one-direction, silent classes.
