My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school. I was a section leader, but most of all a caring supportive friend. I would help teach my section, especially when we were going to compete. From there for me it went from leaching them to tutoring off and on for many years how to play the flute or piccolo. I taught younger kids and even adults how to play. Currently now I am even teaching my niece to play the saxophone and piano. From those who I have taught we are all at different stages and there is always room for growth.

For beginning students for playing the flute I would teach them about the horn, how to put it together, and the best way to blow into the mouthpiece with correct air support. What you learn from the start you tend to always carry with you, so it is best to learn correctly from the beginning. The next lesson I would ask them to show me what we learned the last time and if they did it correctly, we would move on and start to learn a note or two. These notes will be used in that lesson for a song we will be learning and also for his/her homework assignment for that week. I will also teach them to count for that song, so they are playing it correctly. For adults that are just starting is the same way, but if they are coming back playing again then I would help them on the level they are at, and we would pick up from there.
