MM, University of Michigan, Voice Performance BM, Stetson University, Voice, Outside Field in Music Education/Choral Conducting
Hello! I am a High Lyric Mezzo-soprano and a 2016 graduate of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance at the University of Michigan, where I received my Master of Music in Voice Performance. A native of Florida, I went to Stetson University for my Bachelor of Music in Voice with a focus in Music Education/Choral Conducting. I have been singing classically since 2005 and have been a featured artist with the University of Michigan Opera Theatre and Opera MODO located in Detroit. I have been privately teaching since 2014 and am excited to see my studio grow!
I have my Bachelor of Music in Voice with a focus in Music Education/Choral Conducting, and a Master of Music in Voice Performance. During these degrees, I studied vocal pedagogy extensively and began my private studio. I fully believe in the philosophy of hard work. Anyone can sing as long as they are able to put in the time and effort. I looks for students who want to work hard and have fun while doing what they love! I strived to keep that passion alive while also continuing to challenge my students to reach and meet new goals at every lesson.
Most of my teaching involves two things: Technique and Genuineness. You cannot have one without the other and even when I am teaching proper technique I work to make sure the student is being their most natural self, physically, mentally and musically. I don't believe in copying a great singer or musician, but the student finding their best self and voice from being as free of a singer as possible. This goal can only be achieved when a singer learns to be free in their body using correct and healthy technique and both of these things are what I strive for in every lesson.
I always ask my students what their goals are, both short and long term. This then gives me a good outline of how I expect our lessons to go. My biggest goal is not just for my students to grow and progress but also to have fun! We sing because we love it, and it gives us joy to do it and share it with others. While I do strive to challenge my students, I never want them to leave a lesson discouraged. They should always enjoy themselves and be inspired to practice and make music for themselves and others!
