I teach music to students who want to learn music. I can teach different styles of music, including classical and popular. Sight reading and ear training are very important elements that I also teach. However, if students only wish to learn one type of music, I will honor their preference. My training includes a BA degree in Music, and a MA degree in Administration.
I have taught many students in public schools and in private lessons for many years. The various subjects I taught included general music, choir, piano, band, orchestra, drama and English. I served as Music Department Chairman for many years. The students performed in assemblies, festivals, civic and cultural events, musical plays, and concerts. I also have a background in teaching church choirs. I can teach hymns, anthems, spirituals, gospels and praise songs.
I encourage students to choose one or two songs that they already know or would like to learn. Students are also taught simple vocal exercises from basic fundamental books, as well as stretching and breathing exercises. I use a variety of music books, depending on the level of the student. A new song will be introduced at the next lesson, and a review of the present lesson will continue.
I teach students to learn exercises that will ecourage them to focus on correct posture, breathing techniques, and vocal development. Students must bring a notebook to keep track of their assignments for each lesson. Students can learn to perform in front of others, develop self confidence and have fun at the same time.
