I'm a passionate and motivated teacher who loves performing, working with students, and sharing my love of music with others. I believe music is a gift that should be shared. I began playing violin 19 years ago and have played actively since. I began college in 2007 and studied music for a year before completing a degree in biology. However, I recently started studying music again at Berklee college of music and I am working on completion of my music degree. I have played with the Central Florida Community arts orchestra since August of 2016 and play a wide variety of styles of music. We are currently preparing for a show with the Orlando Ballet.
I am just beginning my journey doing private lesson on a consistent basis but I have taught lessons off and on for a few years. I have also volunteered with the Central Florida Community Arts youth orchestra, playing with them as well as assisting them with their performances. I am currently a certified teacher in the state of Florida and have taught science for Seminole county public schools for the past two years. I have experience working with students from a wide range of ages and love seeing students learn and develop a love of music. I find that its important to balance basics and fundamentals with things the students are interested in and find fun!
On a first lesson, i will assess where you or your student is in terms of playing ability, based on that we can decide what comes next. Typically, if a student is brand new we will start with learning the basics of the violin and reading music using various excerpts and hands on experience. Then once some of the basics are acquired we will begin with primarily Suzuki method books as well as anything else the student may have the want to study such a piece or solo for school. Once the student is comfortable with beginning playing we will work together to find pieces that not only progress the students capabilities but that the student also has passion for.
My teaching style is flexible and fun! I love seeing students learn and develop a passion for music. While it is important to correct errors in order to be able to learn, i think it is equally if not more important to focus on a students accomplishments. Setting realistic goals is also important when working with students. My students need to feel good about their playing and what they have accomplished in order to continue to be willing to work towards their goals. I constantly work to instill motivation and passion in my students, and help them apply that motivation and passion to the goals they want to achieve.
