I'm a dedicated and hard-working teacher that works to provide a consistently growing love and appreciation for music in her students. In 2016, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Clarinet Performance at Morehead State University, and in April 2018 I graduated with my Master of Music degree at the Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music. I have performed in various professional and semi-professional musical settings including: 2 years in the Cave Run Symphony Orchestra, playing out of clarinet/flute/saxophone books for multiple musicals, and most recently traveling around the Midwest states playing clarinet for the Guerrilla Chamber Collective (a chamber group dedicated to performing new music by up-and-coming composers).
My teaching experience began in my undergraduate days at Morehead State University. While teaching private lessons to students across Kentucky I also was a music theory tutor for my peers at Morehead. I have experience teaching students at all levels, from beginner to advanced levels. My theory and private lesson students always gained much improvement, and some of my advanced students even entered all state bands and competitions. No matter if a student is considering a career in music or just considers music a fun hobby and wants to improve, there’s always so much to learn!
Each lesson plan will be tailored to fit the student’s needs. Personally, I think one of the most important parts of teaching music is to give students a complete grasp of performing music by combining theory into their lesson plan to make a well-rounded musician. Their lesson plan will depend on their playing level: I will make sure they have fundamentals down for beginner students, but also adding solo repertoire and etudes to teach virtuosity and good performance practice for the advanced students.
Each student learns differently, therefore I will be constantly working to see what style of teaching works best for each individual. I have found that constant encouragement keeps students engaged and eager to learn and to let the music itself challenge the student. By finding out what a student is most interested in we can keep their love of music alive and use it to help them further learn to reach their goals. Students in private lessons not only need a teacher, but a motivator to help them push themselves!
Amanda is absolutely FANTASTIC! Alongside being professional in playing and teaching, she is so kind and dedicated to her students. I cannot recommend her enough! She is truly that passionate! Finding a dedicated and quality teacher/musician of such caliber is rare...and Amanda fits all of that.
An extraordinary musician and educator.
One of the most dedicated and passionate musicians I have ever met. Amanda is always looking not only at making beautiful music every time she performs, but looking at finding ways to be a better musician, teacher, and an overall better human being. Those combination of skills are not found everywhere which will cause any prospective student to flourish under the direction of Amanda.
Amanda is a wonderful musician and an even more wonderful colleague. She has a solid classical training paired with a good ear that will consistenly improve anyone who takes a lesson with her. I highly reccomend Amanda as a teacher.
Amanda is an incredible musician and mentor. She is observant, skillful, kind, and encouraging. Any person would be lucky to learn from her.
Tutored me in advanced music theory as a freshman music major. Always admired how well she played and her level of professionalism!
