Overview:
I am a passionate and devoted piano teacher with a real love of music and a strong desire to pass my knowledge onto others. I took seven years of piano lessons in grade school and graduated from Florida State College with an Associate of Arts in Music degree. I also played piano in the Charlton County High School Jazz Ensemble and at the United Methodist Church. I love working with children and other adults, and I am looking forward to being able to pass the gift of playing beautiful piano music onto them.
EXPERIENCE
I first started working with children when I was attending Florida State College. I took a course on elementary education, and did some field work at a local elementary school. It was there that I found out how much I really loved kids. I had a wonderful time in the classroom. It was fun getting to know the students, and I loved how their faces lit up when I read them stories or helped them with their arts and crafts. I have also taught my younger brother some piano. It was a joy to teach him, and I loved hearing him play.
METHODS USED
I will start off my lessons with the Bastien Piano Basics course. The student will use a lesson book, a performance book, a technique book and a theory book. Once the student has reached a certain level, they will begin lessons in Piano Literature and John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. My adult students will use the Bastien Piano for Adults series, and they may also want to use John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. If the student would like, they can learn using Christmas books, hymn books, or any sheet music they would like to bring in with them to lessons.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more important for me than seeing a student succeed! I am a firm believer in giving a student plenty of praise and encouragement for all their hard work. I think it is important to give credit where credit is due, and I definitely will not hold back any positive feedback when they have accomplished something new. I am sure there will be mistakes, but I do not think we should dwell on them. I think lessons should be a positive, uplifting experience. It should be something that the student will look forward to, and I want to make it fun and rewarding for them.
