Overview:
I am an experienced, enthusiastic music instructor, who received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Massachusetts in voice and piano.  Whether you want to learn piano or sing, my expertise and patience teaching children as well as adults will guide you naturally.     You will have a fun and rewarding experience. We will discuss your goals so your lessons and repertoire are customized to suit your needs, utilizing method books, pieces you'd like to learn along with learning music theory. Also included with your lessons are the opportunity to perform in recitals twice a year, email support, weekly lesson notes, progress reports, recordings, performance classes, fun learning games, and supplemental music. What's important is to make learning fun, exciting and rewarding so that each student will be challenged and have a sense of accomplishment and desire to progress. There are so many benefits to learning music, physically and mentally. But most of all, it's a skill to enjoy for your whole life! I'm a professional jazz/pop vocalist, and have appeared around the world as a soloist singing jazz and pop, places including the Blue Note, NYC, Maui, Key West, Paris, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, Budapest, Phuket, Sydney, Australia.  I have also sung in ensemble groups including the Masterworks Chorale, NYC, the Verdi Opera Chorus of Southern California.  I have sung in Mandarin Chinese, Brazillian Portuguese, French, Italian and Spanish. Currently, I volunteer at the Senior Center leading/accompanying the Sing-Alongs doing songs from the early 1900's up to the present.
EXPERIENCE
You will love your lessons with me and my teaching experience of over 25 years.  I have taught after school group piano classes, and currently, teach private voice and piano lessons. Virtual lessons are just as valuable and effective as in-person lessons. I am enthusiastic and have excellent communication skills and patience and work well with children as well as adults! What's important is to make learning fun, exciting and rewarding so that each student will be challenged and have a sense of accomplishment and desire to progress.
METHODS USED
You will have a fun and rewarding experience. Each student is unique; so your lessons and repertoire are customized to suit your needs, utilizing method books and learning music theory, the foundation. Included with your lessons are: *opportunity to perform in recitals twice a year *email support *weekly lesson notes *progress reports *recordings *performance classes *fun learning games *supplemental music *reference materials For singing, we start out with warm-ups and then work on songs of your choosing or mine if you want some advice. We work on breath, pitch, tone, word pronunciation, expression.
LESSON STYLE
Singing and/or learning an instrument is exciting and rewarding.  It's a skill that lasts a lifetime. Therefore, I feel it's important to make learning fun, exciting and rewarding so that each student will be challenged and have a sense of accomplishment and desire to progress. I gear the lessons to you depending on your needs. It is a relaxed, fun environment. I hold two recitals a year to give students a chance to perform. I feel it's an important part of education in helping with building self-esteem and self-confidence.

Taking voice lesson with Amber is a real treat! While she is serious in teaching me how to sing correctly, how to interpret the music, she is also a lot of fun to work with. She would act to the music to show me the difference in singing a Broadway musical versus singing a classical Italian song. She teaches me how to pronounce English, Italian and Latin correctly. I really enjoy taking voice lesson from her. ~ Lily Tu

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Amber and working with her today. I was immediately put at ease - Amber made me feel welcome, accepted and was incredibly helpful to me today, as I am auditioning on Sunday to sing as a soloist at my church! I have great exercises to strengthen my diaphragm, and she gave really good instruction regarding how to get the correct sound for each voice range. I am looking forward to meeting with her again, and continuing my studies under Amber.
