My vision is to touch lives with the gift of music... I desire to share my passion for music with those who are music lovers and those who desire to play a musical instrument. I enjoy working with students and all audiences, but my reward comes when I can see the skills and talents of my students, progress and develop with a hope for them to become life-long musicians...
I began teaching and working with children about 10 years ago in a public school setting. I've worked with children in various settings including the YMCA, local Sports Teams, and youth programs at several churches. I've taught music for 6 years and have enjoyed it since. I like to encourage those students who enjoy music as much as I do, to get involved in other music programs in the community, at school, or even at church, that way their gifts can be shared with others. At my studio, I emphasize the importance of committment, determination, and excellence because not only do those apply to music in regards to practice, performance, and continual growth, but also to life's princinples. My students are encouraged to perform at recitals, enter competitions, compose their own material, and listen to other music they are interested in playing, that way they stay motivated to learn. Last, I like to reward students for their accomplishments and their progress in their musical journey to success.
For beginner students who are children, I start with Bastien Piano Basics. Once the students understand the music concepts properly, at the late beginner level I transition them to Nancy and Randall Faber's Piano Adventures. In my experience, this method provides a wider range of repertoire that the children are familiar with and enjoy practicing!
I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing. I also like to reward students for their success and accomplishments throughout the piano year!
