I am a passionate flutist located in the Glendale area who loves to inspire and motivate students! In 2015 I graduated from Northern Arizona Univeristy with my bachelors in music performance, as well as in criminology & criminal justice. Expanding my experience as a musician in professional settings within Flagstaff and other areas has been life-changing and made me come to the realization that music is a true passion of mine, as well as sharing my talent with students and audience members.
I began teaching back in high school, having a few students for a couple of years until I graduated that ranged from child to adult. I was not able to have the opportunity to teach privately to students in college, as pursuing two degrees was very time consuming and overwhleming at times! I missed teaching dearly, and I am so excited to be done with school to get back into inspiring students. I encourage regular practicing, setting goals, and holding students accountable for preparing materials for their lessons and/or for band at school or any other ensembles they may be involved in. I encourage my students to play beyond their lessons, such as school or outside ensembles. If I get enough students, I would love to put together a flute choir as well, as playing with other musicians helps to develop the ear for sake of tone flexibility, balance, and as well as intonation. I am lively, understanding, and approachable. I believe in hacing a relationship with my students that is professional, but fun!
For beginning students, I am willing to work with them on the book they are using in school band. I also like to use other flute technique books, such as Rubank, Melodious etudes, and flute duets as well. When the student has developed a confident tone and technique, I will introduce solo repertoire that is at a comfortable level for the student, as well as eventuall getting the student to learn the beauty of collaborating with a pianist or other form of accompanist.
I teach because I love to share the knowledge that I have obtained through my personal experiences and apply them to my students. Nothing is better than seeing my students improve on a weekly basis! I am patient, fun, and motivating towards my students. I respect that everyone learns at their own pace. I firmly believe that the experience of teaching privately is a two-way street between the instructor and the student: it is my responsibility to give the student the materials they need to further their musicianship, and with these tools given, the student has a personal responsibility to practice in order to fulfill the weekly-to-overall goal.
