I'm a passionate and driven music instructor who loves sharing my love of music with students who possess the same passion. In 2017, I graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with a concentration in classical saxophone. I've been playing saxophone for 14 years, Clarinet for 5 years and Flute for 3 years. Over the years I've been playing with cover bands and I've been a freelance music for the past 8 years. I'm currently part of R&B/Soul/Funk group called The Brooklyn Funk Collective.
My teaching experience dates back in college. I never thought that teaching would be a passion of mine until I began teaching privately 7 years ago. The first question I like to ask my students is what inspired you to play the saxophone and what are their overall goals. Where do they want to reach and strive for when playing their desired instrument? Based on the students' goals, I will gear my instruction towards my the needs and desires of the student and give them the best experience possible I began teaching students from my church who were eager to learn the saxophone.
For beginning students who are children, I normally start on Accent on Achievement, Standard Of Excellence, or if they are learning music in school and continuing their studies privately, I begin with any book that they start on in school. Once they have a solid foundation I will have them learn how to play ear, technique books such as Rubank, and etude books and also music that they will find exciting and fun to play. For the Adult, I will give the student the freedom of what they would like to learn or work on such playing by ear, improvisation etc. I plan to a make my lessons fun and exciting regardless of ability level.
My goal is to give my students a strong music foundation such as developing great/productive practice habits, instrument care, exposing them to great artist and bands of different genres that will inspire and motivate them to become the best musicians they can be. I believe in patience is a virtue when it comes to a student's progression in music. I believe that understanding the foundation and fundamentals of learning an instrument is the first step to mastering the instrument. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students each lesson whether if it learning scales, learning a new key on the instrument, or learning a new piece of music. I am a huge advocate in tailoring my instruction to the needs and the desire of the student.
