I am a passionate instructor who is committed to helping my students achieve their goals. I firmly believe that education is a privilege, not a job. I feel lucky to be able to do what I love to do as work every day and share this passion with my students. I have a BA in Music and Spanish from Kean University. I believe that musical education is a wonderful way to round a person in all areas of life; cognitively, emotionally, and spiritually. I am also an experienced vocal coach and am very passionate about seeing my students open up to their fullest capacity.
I have over 10 years of experience teaching Piano, Voice, and Spanish. I travel to my students, giving them the luxury and comfort of being able to take lessons in their own homes. I also teach virtual lessons and have students who have been taking virtual lessons with me for over 4 years now. I teach all ages (5 years old-adults of all ages and beyond 65). I am classically trained and can also teach other desired genres such as blues, funk, jazz, pop, and so much more. I believe in covering all grounds of music; Theory, Reading, Historical, and performance presence. I think it's important to cross-train all these areas to achieve a well-rounded and successful musician. I am an active performer and songwriter and can guide my students into using their musical skills in the real world.
I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency. The student will be given work that is reasonable to practice once a day for at least 10-20 minutes a day. The student shouldn't have to spend hours at the piano, as long as they have a few minutes of focused practice a day, this is enough to make significant progress. I also teach earn training and music theory, and apply this knowledge to modern musical styles. In addition, I prepare my students for live music recitals to ensure they make real life use of their skills.
As a teacher, I am an excellent communicator. I pay close attention to my students and am able to see their strengths and weaknesses. I go at the pace of my student. As a teacher, I work with consistent methods that cater to the students' individual needs. I also display a passion for the music that inspires my students. Not only do I teach the mechanics, but I love to spend a few minutes engaging in conversation analyzing the student's interpretation of the music. I believe in teaching a well rounded approach to music so they have a healthy foundation that can open up many opportunities musically for the future of the student.
