I'm a passionate musician who feel more than grateful with this art because it has given me the opportunity to travel around the world and get to know amazing people not only masters but also students that now I feel proud to call friends. I'm very concerned about my students learning process because if they love music as much as I and intend to learn it from me, is a huge compromise to me and I approach it in the most professional way possible. I've been playing, singing and performing more than 10 years. I honestly feel there is a lot for me to learn too, but also have a trustworthy experience on this, reason why I'm able to share a lot of knowledge with my students not only about music but life too since after all they are really close to each other. I currently play at the UNM top jazz big band, and in a few jazz combos within ABQ.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons to some of my peers that were interested at that time, around 9 years ago, and since then I've been teaching students in my home country and overseas trough skype. I had the chance to teach as a professor on several colleges in my country including kids, youngsters and elder people, which I find very interesting because although they are very different I can relate to all of them in his interest to learn about music. As professional musician, I've been taught trough classical theory training, but as jazz major I also know a lot about jazz theory which gave me both approaches to teaching in the most efficient and comfortable way that the student ask me to, ( not everybody learns in the same way for sure). I'm also excited about learning from my students because it is something that I do like and appreciate a lot.
For beginning students who are children, I usually start with simple things as rhythm exercises that awake their musical aptitudes, and also a couple of musical games that allow the children to learn music but still have fun and bring the possibility to engage a very intimate relationship with their instrument. For youngsters and adults, first of all, I try to find out their primary interests and musical preferences, in order to establish a clear and safe path to approach their learning process.
In all cases, the most important thing I try to teach is the love for this art and therefore for the instrument I'm teaching, because that is the best thing a teacher can teach you. I encourage all my students to set goals that are real and possible to accomplished. Acknowledging their advance is a key thing to motivate them to go further every time, always taking care of his health avoiding any kind of injuries through setting a good practice routine with proper warm-ups. I'm always open to teach my students what they want to learn, being also honest with them by showing them that learning music is a step by step process which with discipline and hard work can reward you more than most things in life could ever do.
