Overview:

Hello! I am a passionate music educator and performer who loves to share my experience and passion for music with my students. I have received my education across the country at schools including California State University, Fullerton and Manhattan School of Music, and have now come back to Southern California where I grew up and currently reside. While I have a deep rooted love of performing, I also find it incredibly rewarding to share my experience with students and encourage them to develop their interests in music as well. I believe it is the key to keeping classical music alive and well in our community and allows younger generations to discover their love of music just as I did at their age.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching in my early college years dating back to 2010. I have since taught students ranging in all ages from 6 to adult. Not only have I had many double bass students, as that is my primary instrument, but I have also taught trombone, beginning violin, and music theory as well. I highly encourage my students to practice regularly, as consistency is the key to developing any new skill. Additionally, I encourage every student to learn at their own pace that suits them, because everyone will learn at their unique pace in technical and musical development. I pace my instruction around each student to meet their needs, because it is my job to be sensitive to their level of understanding. That is the most rewarding part of my job as well.

METHODS USED

For beginning students, we typically begin with Essential Elements while discovering fundamentals of the instrument and getting a handle on reading bass clef and rhythms. This of course varies on a student's previous experience or comfort with reading music. We progress from there into appropriate etudes that can be quite melodic and entertaining to practice and then beginning solo repertoire, and advance from there. I always encourage students to have a goal piece in mind that they would like to play, especially my adult students, so we can frame our goals around that and set up a plan of action as we move forward.

LESSON STYLE

My teaching style is very diagnostic and understanding. I love seeing my students explore their interests in music and giving them the tools to succeed in the process. I do believe it is my job as a teacher to ensure the student is enjoying what they are doing! I like to reinforce basic techniques at all times so we are always building upon fundamentals to overcome any challenges faced in learning new pieces. That being said, practice involves working on those techniques and I like to see the student demonstrate them for me, then applying them to passages we are working on and tying everything together. Having a goal in mind can create a great musical journey for the student and I love seeing their development as they discover their love for it as well.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
