I'm a passionate instrumentalists that is always looking to help, lead, and motivate others in the world of music. I have performed on piano, accordion, and all types of percussion throughout my life thus far. My main special instrument, being percussion, is something that I have been continuously working with since I started middle school and have enjoyed improving ever since. I am even more excited to share my valuable strategies and knowledge with others striving to learn percussion, piano, or accordion! I am now graduating with my Master's Degree in Communication and Business from High Point University and also received my Bachelor's in both Communication and Music. I have had the amazing opportunity to be involved in multiple instrumental ensembles throughout my education career, including college, where I was a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, and community orchestra.
When I became more involved in instrumental studies and performance, I quickly wanted to help others achieve musical excellence through myself and my experience as a medium! I have been a leader in several musical groups throughout my schooling. I was section leader in my high school concert band, and was also named drum captain for my last two years in the drumline of the HPU marching band. I have been able to lead and mentor other students in the music department as well as in the marching band and it is one of my favorite things to see those around me succeed through my aid.
I love to start with the Essential Elements music books because those are some the tools that I began with when I was young and starting out. Depending on the student, I may move to other books, exercises, or solos. I am most focused on fundamentals, rudiments, and technique when instructing because those aspects are the building blocks of any great player and being able to incorporate those into different music really makes a difference. In addition, practicing in a way that's healthy is super important!
I love teaching rudiments, exercises, and other valuable strategies for piano, accordion, and especially percussion! The most amazing point is seeing a student improve from where they began, no matter the amount of struggle they endure. I am a firm believer of having a student excel and learn at their own pace and the last thing I want is for a student to feel overwhelmed or even become discouraged. Setting goals is important and all goals set are realistic and reachable, no matter how small. I have always loved setting goals that are validating and motivating and taking pieces little by little is the best way to commit the rudiments involved to memory.
