National Tour of A Christmas Carol as Performer/Vocal Coach
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2015 I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in General/Choral Music Education with a Specification in Voice. In my career I have taught elementary, middle and high school general music, choir and musical theatre. I have also written and directed children's theatre, as well as performed around the country in the national tour of A Christmas Carol. I would be delighted to share my love and devotion to music and theatre with passionate students!
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, when I student taught at various middle and high schools as well as taught private voice lessons at a music and dance academy. After college I started my first teaching job in Maryland, teaching beginner piano, choir, and musical theatre. After my first job I joined the national tour of A Christmas Carol, where I was a performer as well as the vocal coach. I've now spent my time performing at various theaters as well as teaching full to part time music classes at different schools.
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Course for piano students. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For voice, I test the students' vocal range, health and style and work with them to determine what music they can work on that will fit their voice best.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs to make them confident, healthy, and efficient singers or players.
