Niagara County Community College, Music
I have been playing guitar for 14 years, primarily combining shred guitar techniques with jazz chord inversions and jazz theory. I have studied jazz guitar as well as recieved an Associates in Music. Guitar is my passion, though I do not have the degrees of some teacher I have studied and practiced guitar extensively for many years. I have studied under Jason Beaudreau who is a 25+ year jazz veteren and have educated myself for years as well.
I taught at Lockport Music Center under Ralph Fava, who was an advocate of the Berkley teaching method. I also have taught private lessons for 7 plus years. I have played in Progressive rock bands in Buffalo N.Y. such as Paradyme and Weaponex.
The way I have always approached teaching is the same way i learned music, to try and make each concept make sense by breaking down and relating basic key points of playing and improvising to each other. For example, I like to emphasize breaking down chords and the related scales in an easy to undertand and logical way. I emphasize the importance of phrasing and shaping chords while using such shred techniques as alternate picking, legatto, sweep picking and tapping. My main style of playing is economy picking based sweep and legato techniques such as 3-1-3 sweeps and 2-1-2 sweeps. I also like stress chord inversions and understanding key changes, chord scales, outside improve techniques and so on.
I like to see where each student is in terms of what there level and understanding of music is. I like to know what your goals are and adapt my style to help you achieve them. I will usually break up each lesson into 3 parts. Chord theory, scale theory, and technique. The technique section can cover several different playing techniques as well as an emphasize on the ones your most interested in.
